Some students are trying to get gender-neutral washrooms on their university campuses to de-stigmatize transgendered people who face bullying and have to "out" themselves by choosing the "Women" or "Men" washroom.
I disagree that unisex washrooms will de-stigmatize because they won't address the ignorance and hate that is at the root of the mistreatment.
What do you think?
I totally agree with you. I know that transgendered people go through a horrible time of having to live as their chosen sex before they undergo surgery and it can lead to all sorts of complications for them.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I'm concerned, I don't really care if I'm sharing a powder room with a man who wants to be a woman, a woman who wants to be a man or anyone else as long as they don't leave a mess and don't hog the mirror.
I'm not trying to trivialise anything here. I genuinely don't think it's any of my business unless it impinges directly on my life, and a person's gender doesn't affect me unless I'm sleeping with them.
(Leaving a mess or hogging the mirror is fairly gender non-specific, actually.)
I agree that the real problem is hate/ignorance.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by my blog. You asked a good question about that horse's nice trot - training or nature? The answer is both. The horse has a nice trot to begin with, and correct training has developed his muscling, etc.
