Last week, being the Disney purist that I am, I expressed disappointment that The Lion King was only going to be shown in theatres in 3D.
Watching it on the big screen tonight, I actually didn't really feel the 3D experience and I couldn't figure out why.

Viewing Monster: Questions of Ethics in Literary Non-Fiction
Last night I watched Monster (2003) for the first time.
The film is based on the true story of Aileen Wuornos, a woman who, after years working as a prostitute, kills some of her customers.
Watching it, I knew it was based on fact and wondered how the author's plot and character design might affect the public's perception of the character.

The Lion King is in Theatres... In 3D?
This past weekend The Lion King 3D was box office gold.
I have adored this classic film since it came out in 1994 when I was eight years old. It was a staple of my childhood and you bet I'm going to go see it with my family.
The original was released in 2D and was a massive success in theatres and in its various home entertainment releases. It was also huge in 2002 when it was released in IMAX theatres, proving that years after people first saw it, they were still interested in going to the theatre to watch it.

GreenHeroes: My Latest Adventure!
A Toronto shark fin ban? It looks like it's going to happen! Check out this blog post I wrote for GreenHeroes, an online web channel and TVO television series that tells the stories of people who were spurred on to help make changes in the environment. Our GreenHeroes include Jane Goodall, David Suzuki, Sarah Harmer, Rob Stewart and many more!
I've been working with the team at GreenHeroes on their social media and communications for about a month now and I love it! I love that I get to raise awareness about such important work and show people how they can get involved.
Please follow GreenHeroes on Twitter and Like us on Facebook for news on our GreenHeroes and information on how you can get involved in their causes. We'd love your comments on what we post and we will respond.

Wayne Gretzky: Narcissist?
I had dinner at Wayne Gretzky's restaurant tonight. I walked through a hall filled with his hockey memorabilia and into the washroom where I heard part of his biography as I peed.
I want to be famous and have my own restaurant some day.

The Support of a Walking Cane
Today I tried out my new walking cane in public for the first time. It wasn't nearly as awkward or nerve wracking as I thought it would be. I think this is because I needed it. I still lost my balance a bunch of times of course, but with the cane it was less of a strain.
I bought the cane last week. During my annual check-up with my neurosurgeon, he told me to consider that the worsened symptoms of my Dandy Walker Syndrome may never improve. I wasn't devastated. I had suspected this for over two years.

An Ecologist's Struggle with Cancer
In university I read a book called "Living Downstream," told by an ecologist and cancer survivor about the connections between environmental toxins and health. In beautiful prose, author Sandra Steingraber blends two narratives: the personal Sandra, dealing with the cancer and the scientist Sandra, putting the pieces together and discussing how carcinogens (cancer causing agents) work.
