Copying and Pasting Awareness

"I bet 99 % of you won't repost this"

Many Facebook users post status updates that include this message after reposting it from someone else's. This is so rude. Passive aggressive. A guilt trip. They're pretty much saying "I don't think you'll join me in dealing with issue; I don't think you care about this cause, but I'll post this anyway." Is this how we garner support? We recycle someone else's message, instead of creating our own, and we guilt trip people -- our friends -- in the process?

Science is Sexy. Pretty Colours!

The European Commission, an organization that serves the European Union, has released a campaign called "Science: It's a Girl Thing!" to encourage women to participate in science, technology, mathematics, etc., fields from which women are still very absent. Here is the video for it. The original was taken down for reasons I don't understand, but another Youtube user reposted it.

How do you get women to become scientists? Why, you make science feminine, sexy and cute, of course.

Hiding Your Period?

From the moment we women first learn about periods, we are taught to hide them.

I remember when I had "the talk." At the end of it, I received a cute, small, orange pack to conceal my "equipment" at school when I'd have to make the trip to the washroom.

Amazing Cass Elliot

For over a year now, I have been fascinated with the personality, life and career of Cass Elliot.

There is something about her voice that speaks to me. It's so emotionally charged with -- well, every emotion. Even in the Mamas and the Papas' four-part harmony, her voice is extremely distinguishable. How does that work? How does one voice stand out so much, especially when all of the singing sounds great? I suppose the recordings could have been engineered to highlight Cass' voice, but it doesn't sound louder or clearer.

I Love Downton Abbey

I am very interested in what attracts me to art, be it songs, television shows, movies, books, paintings.

My latest obsession is Downton Abbey and I think it's because that time period and its social implications fascinates me. This is all told with beautiful storytelling, music, costumes and sets.

Downton Abbey is a television drama about the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants from 1912 until the 1910s. (The third season, coming this fall, will take place in the 1920s!)
